My work has received international attention and has been featured in leading academic publications, including Harvard, Berkeley, the American Journal of Int’l Law, and UChicago Press, as well as prominent online fora, including Thompson Reuters, Huffington Post, and Knowledge@Wharton.
I have been a regular speaker on corporate responsibility and human rights issues at international policy events (such as at the UN PRME Global Forum, the European Court of Human Rights, and the Aspen Institute), academic workshops and conferences (including at Harvard Law School, The Wharton School, Kellogg School of Management, University of Chicago, and NYU Stern School of Business), and numerous multi-stakeholder industry events.
I have provided thought leadership on better understanding contemporary societal phenomena and challenges in the field of business and human rights in an effort to inform normative frameworks and operational guidance. Recent projects that I spearheaded include:
* Leadership Initiative on Corporate Engagement with Public Policy, which brought together corporate officials and stakeholder representatives in a closed-door setting to initiate a frank and open dialogue with the goal of developing recommendations for corporate engagement with public policy issues of major societal importance that are not linked to a company’s own business operations. Such issues include the global refugee crisis, public health, LGBTI rights, racism, climate change, among others. The project findings were published by the Chicago Council on Global Affairs. The UN Human Rights Office encourages the important role of corporate advocacy in the protection of human rights and supported this dialogue.
* Workshop on Online Technologies and Respect for Human Rights in Conflict and High-Risk Areas, hosted by the Zicklin Center for Business Ethics Research at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania as part of its Business & Human Rights Pillar. This invitation-only roundtable brought together a group of leading internet companies, academics, civil society groups, humanitarian personnel, and international criminal justice practitioners with the goal to help ICT companies understand their human rights responsibilities in areas of armed conflicts and fragile societies and develop industry standards in the context of the full spectrum of international standards and principles governing these situations. The findings from the roundtable discussion were conveyed to the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights.
I have participated as a volunteer in various roles with academic, U.N., and civil society initiatives during the last decade:
* Founding Co-chair of Business & Human Rights Working Group under UN Global Compact’s Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME), 2015 – 2020
* Member of Business and Human Rights Advisory Board, American Bar Association Center for Human Rights, 2015 – 2020
* Co-Chair of Learning Committee, Global Network Initiative, 2017 – 2020
* Member of the Governance Committee of the Columbia University Teaching Business and Human Rights Forum, 2016 – 2019
